READ THE POLICY
Periods, then a union.
For each rule, start with the most recent occupied periods and select the latest backup in each. Combine the selections into one set. Weekly periods follow ISO weeks, Monday to Sunday; all boundaries use UTC.
This is a generic simulation for one backup group. Empty periods are skipped. It does not reproduce a specific backup product’s prune command. Setting every rule to zero selects no backups. No backup files are accessed or deleted.
02 / TRANSFER ESTIMATOR
Put a time on the transfer.
Account for link efficiency and the slower storage endpoint.
Transfer time is part of recovery time.
This estimate starts when bytes begin moving. Allow additional time for archive retrieval, backup discovery, CPU work, decompression, application startup and validation.
1 TB = 1,000 GB. 1 TiB = 1,024 GiB. Link speed uses megabits per second; storage speed uses megabytes per second.
READ THE ESTIMATE
The slowest limit wins.
Available link throughput is link speed × efficiency ÷ 8. When a storage limit is supplied, the lower throughput sets the estimate. The model assumes that rate remains constant for the entire transfer.
For example, 1 TB over a 100 Mbps link at 80% efficiency takes about 27.78 hours to transfer. A real recovery should be timed and tested against your recovery objective.
